If sound reduction is important to you, two tests that are important to note are the Sound Transmission Class (STC), which evaluates the ability of acoustic rubber underlay to reduce audible noise (talking, music); and the Impact Insulation Class (IIC), which evaluates the ability of the rubber acoustic underlay to block impact sounds (i.e. footsteps, weight drops). The higher the number rating of either test, the better the resilient rubber acoustic underlay will be at supressing sound transmission and vibrations.
