Does the rubber flooring smell?
Many of our products are manufactured right here in North America. We only use high-end polyurethane bonds that limit VOC’s, or “off-gassing”, to a small fraction of a percent- resulting in a non-toxic and safe product for both indoor and outdoor use. Because our products are made from premium recycled rubber materials, the smell will be much less than that from a traditional virgin, or synthetic rubber floor materials. There may be an initial faint odor which will dissipate in a short time.
You have several products that offer numerous applications. How do I know which product I should use?
Many of our products can be used almost anywhere, in fact, the applications are endless! Factors such as design capabilities, installation methods, and costs will play a role in your decision. Please contact a Perfect Surfaces representative to help you find the best product for your project.
Where is Perfect Surfaces located and where can you ship to?
Our headquarters is in Calgary, Alberta and we cater to the Canadian market; we also ship to any American location.
How are your products maintained?
Most of our products are easy to clean and maintain. A simple broom, vacuum, mop, or hose down are all that is needed! For extensive cleaning, only use cleaners with a neutral pH, or a degreaser with a sponge mop and water. It is important not to use cleaners with a high pH value, or petroleum-based products (including solvents, adhesives, and sealants) with your recycled rubber flooring.
Can I install your products myself?
Yes, all the products we offer are very simple to install with minimum tool requirements. In fact, many products we offer are interlocking and feature a loose lay installation method- which means no adhesive is required to hold the flooring in place. Can your products be used outside?
Yes, most of the products we offer are suitable for outdoor application. Our products will not rot, crumble, or deteriorate, and provide a wonderful slip-resistant surface for many outdoor surfaces.
Are there really that many tires to recycle?
North America is faced with the significant challenge of diverting or safely managing hundreds of millions reusable and waste tires each year, many which have been illegally dumped or stockpiled. We are proud it do our part by helping to reuse these tires!
How are your products safely converted into recycled rubber surfaces?
These stockpiles of tires are shredded down to their core elements, then the rubber is separated from all steel and metal filings to create a premium recycled crumb rubber. This premium crumb rubber is bonded with a urethane adhesive or vulcanized to form the recycled rubber products that you see today.
Why is recycled rubber considered better than virgin or synthetic rubber?
Virgin rubber is sustainable as it is derived from trees, and synthetic rubber also has a low impact on the environment. However, flooring that contains recycled rubber is a less expensive and more durable choice than virgin or synthetic rubber and is a better choice as far as environmental impact is concerned.
Why is recycled rubber so effective as a sound deadening material?
The process of shredding the waste tires into crumb rubber produces very small particles which, when bound together, contains millions of small air “voids”. As sound is forced to navigate across these voids, much of the sound energy (loudness) is dissipated through these voids.
How does recycled rubber compare to cork underlayment?
Cork is susceptible to mildew and rot, especially if water becomes involved. Because of this, cork requires some form of sealant to prevent such susceptibility- an expensive proposition at best.
How is your pricing compared to other suppliers?
Perfect Surfaces offers some of the most competitive pricing in the market. We can offer such pricing due to our large volume of materials.
What form of payments do you accept?
We accept Visa, Mastercard, bank transfer, E transfers, business cheques, and cash. Accounts may be set up with net 30 terms for repeat clients and dealers.
What thickness of rubber flooring should I use?
The heavier the objects that are being placed on the flooring and/or the higher amount of foot traffic, the thicker the flooring needs to be. Although, all thicknesses of our products are extremely durable and can handle extreme conditions.

How long does gym flooring last?
When properly cared for, most gym flooring can last 20 years or more before certain sections, and higher-traffic areas need to be replaced due to normal wear and tear.
Do I need to put anything under gym flooring?
Rubber gym flooring does not require an underlay. It can be placed directly on top of any smooth, level surface. It is important to pick the correct thickness to avoid damage to the subfloor.
How thick does my gym flooring need to be?
The thickness required varies based on the workout you will perform and/or the type of fitness equipment you’ll be using.
- 6mm (¼”) thickness is suitable for light duty and lighter impact areas.
- 8mm (5/16”) thickness is a durable option for most commercial and home gym applications.
- 10mm (3/8”) to 12mm (½”) for heavier weightlifting areas and exercises, such as deadlifts and Olympic lifts.
Can you install rubber flooring over carpet?
Yes, you can install rubber flooring over carpet. It is best if the carpet is a firmer, low-pile carpet. However, it is still possible to install rubber over a plusher carpet. For a softer carpet, you may require a thicker tile, like our GatorSHOCK, or you may need to put plywood between the carpet and the tile.
What is the best rubber flooring option over laminate or vinyl?
We recommend rubber interlocking tiles or vulcanized rubber sheets, like GatorLOC or VersaRUBBER™, because these products do not require glue or tape. Without glue or tape, you can prevent damage or residue from ruining your existing flooring.
How do you cut the rubber flooring?
We recommend cutting the rubber flooring using a sharp utility knife and a straight edge. For thicker flooring and vulcanized rubber, you will need to score through the material a couple of times with a little extra pressure.
Can I install rubber over surfaces with in-floor heating?
Yes, rubber flooring can be installed over in-floor or radiant heat. It is highly recommended that you allow your flooring to fully acclimate before cutting and adhering it.
How do I clean my rubber floor?
Rubber flooring can be easily cleaned with a broom, vacuum, and mop. Rubber flooring should be cleaned using Neutral pH cleaners or a mild soap such as our CleanBreak Neutral pH Cleaner & Degreaser or CleanBreak Disinfectant. Auto scrubbers can be used for larger spaces or a deeper clean. Be sure to use the least abrasive pad available.
How long will installation take?
This depends on the size of your room, the product you are installing and your level of expertise. Rooms that are being fully adhered down with glue will have to allow additional time for the adhesive to cure.

Do I need to put anything under garage flooring?
Garage flooring does not typically require an underlay. Polyvinyl rolls, garage floor tiles, and rubber matting can all be installed directly over a concrete floor.
Is your garage flooring waterproof?
Our polyvinyl rolls are waterproof; however, in most garages, more than one roll will be required. To avoid water getting through the seams, we recommend overlapping the seams by 3” and using our GorillaCOR Seam Tape on top to seal the joints. Our SnapGRID™ tiles are designed to allow water to flow through and underneath them freely. The ventilation on top allows the flooring to breathe and the moisture to evaporate.
Is rubber flooring good for wet areas?
Yes, rubber flooring has waterproof and slip-resistant qualities that make them great for wet areas or places that experience a lot of moisture, such as garages, outdoor areas, and ice rinks.

Is rubber mat flooring good for animals’ surfaces?
Absolutely! Rubber flooring is the preferred choice for animal and agricultural facilities because of its anti-fatigue and slip-resistant properties for stables, barns, and walking areas. Agriculture rubber flooring is durable, easy to install with a loose lay format, and easy to maintain with only water needed to clean them.
